crystal: Where am I now? This place didn't seem so large for the outside. It's like a maze in here.crystal: I know the others are in here somewhere. I hear movement in other room.
crystal: At least I hope it's them...
sheriff: Well, there you are. We were wondering where you'd gone off to.
crystal: You were wondering? Pardon me, but I seem to be the only person who's still on this mission. The rest of you seem to have been sidetracked.
crystal: What about you? I thought you were busy on a little journey of self-discovery.
sheriff: Yes, well, that's over now. I've finished the search in this place, with no luck I might add.
crystal: Finished... no luck? No cure was found? Did you check the laboratory?
sheriff: Yes, I checked everywhere. We have to accept that there's no cure to be found here.
crystal: You're just going to give up? That's all there is to it? What about Barlow?
sheriff: We tried our best, and sometimes that's the best that can be expected. There are things in this life that we can't change, no matter how hard we try. It's best to just relax and let things happen as they happen.
sheriff: Sure, we may lose Barlow, but there's no use in fighting the inevitable...
crystal: But I have to fight! I have to try my best! You humans have it so easy... I have to try SO hard to be who I am...
sheriff: So you still think you have an evil nature that must be conquered?
crystal: Yes... no, I don't know. I just know that nothing ever comes from doing nothing. And nothing that's of any real value is easy to find or easy to make.
sheriff: You're strong, I'll give you that... But you need to learn to recognize when there's nothing that you can do.
crystal: I can't accept that... not until Barlow is dead.
sheriff: So that's all it takes for you to acknowledge the way the world operates? The death of one person you knew but couldn't help?
crystal: Where are you going with this?
sheriff: Well, I'm sure you've known lots of people who have died. I'm will to bet that you, being a demon, have been responsible for a lot of agony and death.
crystal: I... I don't think this is a good topic of discussion right now. I try SO hard...
sheriff: I know, darling, but it doesn't mean you can accomplish every goal.
crystal: Have you known all along that this was futile?
sheriff: Futile? I wouldn't use that word. When one knows the answer to a question, and that answer is not the answer you want, the problem is not with the answer... it's with you.
sheriff: When you accept the answer without hesitation and without remorse, then how could you call it "futile"?
crystal: Answer my question... have you known all along?
sheriff: Oh, how can we truly known the world as others know it?
sheriff: The truth, and this is THE truth, is that there's nothing that can be done for Barlow.
sheriff: Either you accept that truth, and move on... or you deny it, and suffer needlessly. For my part, I choose to accept the truth.
crystal: Why am I the only one who cares?
sheriff: You can't say that. We all care... otherwise we wouldn't be in this place.
crystal: But you're giving up!
sheriff: This argument could go on indefinitely, or until you learn to accept the truth.
crystal: How can you be so blase about it?
sheriff: I don't think that you-
crystal: I don't want to know what you think of me. You think you understand me so well... I wonder if you really understand anything at all!
crystal: Nothing you can say is going to discourage me.
crystal: And while we're at it, why do we even get up in the morning? I mean, if we take your philosophy to its logic conclusion...
sheriff: I don't think you understand me very well at all.
crystal: Oh, whatever. You can say what you want, but you can't talk me into giving up.
crystal: What should we be doing instead?
sheriff: I'm not going to tell you what to do. You're old enough to make your own decisions on that matter.
crystal: Why do you have to be so uncooperative?
sheriff: Why can't you just accept the truth?
sheriff: You can do as you like. As for me, I'm going to head back home.
crystal: Is that it?! Why can't you take another look around?!
crystal: What good are you, anyway?! Useless!
sheriff: I'll have you know that nothing that anybody does is the least bit useless.
sheriff: If you fail to see the purpose in someone's actions, you should ask yourself what else you're missing.
sheriff: By the way, there used to be a door right here.
sheriff: Well, I'm late for dinner...
crystal: What did he mean that they was a door here? Is he talking metaphorically again?
crystal: Hmmm... let me try a little demonic power...
crystal: I command you to open...
crystal: Wow, I guess he was speaking literally for once.
crystal: Okay, let's see where this goes...
crystal: Well, this looks like a fitting place to find a treasured object...
crystal: Could this be it?! Could this be the thing I've been searching for?
crystal: There's a note attached to the wall over this vial...
crystal: It says, "Cure for the purple chickaree curse. This antidote, which counteracts the curse, is derived from a fang of the very chickarees that brought the curse upon us.
crystal: Well, I just hope I get this to Barlow in time...
crystal: Oh...
crystal: What... what did I do?
crystal: Are you telling me everything you know?
sheriff: I would never lie to you.
crystal: All right, how about this... What do you see in this situation that I don't see? I suspect that you hold a different view of things.
sheriff: Well... I guess you could say that...
crystal: Then you'll tell me.
sheriff: I can only tell you that true wisdom cannot be given in words alone, but by experience. I could tell you things right now, but you wouldn't truly appreciate and understand them until you've had the requisite experiences.
crystal: That's just a fancy way to say that you don't want to tell.
