alex: Okay, everyone. I'm really happy to see all of us here today, to search this old office for a cure for Barlow's condition.
alex: I think all of us know how important this task is, so I'd like to take this time to show my appreciation for the dedication that everyone is showing.
crystal: Alex, are you quite finished? Some of us want to actually save Barlow.
narrator: Inside the office of Dr. K. Sawbones...
crystal: Any luck yet?
eliza: Well, I've found a... oh, with our search? I don't even know what we're looking for.
crystal: We're looking for some mention of the chickaree curse.
eliza: And what do you suppose this "curse" entails? If you ask me, I suspect it's just a local name for some medical ailment.
eliza: If only we knew what it really is, we could get a proper prescription for it.
crystal: Why did you agree to come with us? You don't usually associate with people from the town.
eliza: Oh, it's like Alex said... we have a dedication to an important task... or whatever it was...
crystal: What are you holding?
eliza: Oh, it's a sample of a plant that I found growing in the corner over there. It's a previously unknown species of fern, I think.
crystal: What medical ailment can turn someone purple?
eliza: Well, no virus or bacteria that I know of... but it could possibly be a mental illness.
crystal: So you think Barlow's doing it to himself?
eliza: Who knows? Maybe living in this crazy town for so long has finally cracked him up.
crystal: Why did you REALLY agree to come with us?
eliza: I just told you...
eliza: Okay, okay. I confess. I suspected that old buildings in Spider Cliff might be host to some undocumented species of plant-life.
crystal: So you're only here for the plants!
eliza: Yes, but look at this! There's no mention of anything like this in any of the botanical studies!
crystal: Fine. We'll make do without you.
crystal: Well, we lost someone already.
sheriff: Oh. That's too bad.
crystal: I can't believe Eliza only came for the plants!
sheriff: For shame.
crystal: Yeah, this is all about saving Barlow!
crystal: Anything about the curse in these records?
sheriff: Oh... well, not yet...
crystal: What ARE you looking through?
sheriff: These are old birth records and other medical records.
crystal: So you're looking up records from the time of the chickaree invasion? Good idea.
sheriff: Well, I'll get to that eventually. Right now I'm going through some records from the 1950's.
crystal: Wait. Are you looking for your own birth record?
sheriff: Yes.
crystal: We're supposed to be helping Barlow!
crystal: Why are you looking up your own birth records?!
sheriff: I was born in this building, you know... and...
sheriff: Well, my mother died in childbirth. I never knew her. I was hoping to find something about her...
crystal: Oh, and THAT'S why you wanted to come with us?
sheriff: Of course I want to help Barlow, too. It's just that I've got more than one reason for coming along...
crystal: Bah! Do whatever you want. We'll continue without you.
crystal: Well, Alex, we may not like each other very much, but we're the only ones that really care.
alex: That's funny. I'm still trying to figure out WHY you care.
crystal: Why don't you check for records pertaining to the years of the chickaree invasion?
sheriff: Well, you know, it's funny. These records aren't really ordered chronologically. Or, if they are, they aren't labeled as such.
crystal: There's a drawer right here labeled "1920's". Please tell me you've check it.
sheriff: I have. It's empty.
crystal: There seem to be a lot of records.
sheriff: Actually, there aren't that many. Spider Cliff was never a very big town, at least not during the time that this office was open.
crystal: Then what was stored in all of these drawers?
sheriff: Well, by the looks of things and the state of the files themselves... I'd say... fish.
