sheriff: Well, Alex, it seems these two are blaming you for this bit of intrigue.
crystal: That's right. By working together, Barlow and I were able to deduce that the urn was never stolen and that Alex was behind this misdirection.
sheriff: Hey, Barlow...
rebecca: Oh, just let him sleep.
crystal: Actually, I did all the work on this case. Barlow just kept on falling asleep.
sheriff: Well, what was the big clue that gave it away?
crystal: It would've been perfect, except for that one tragic mistake, which of course I should be given credit for finding...
crystal: I've learned from experience that every villain makes one mistake that leads the observant sleuth to...
sheriff: Crystal, just skip to the clue.
crystal: It was the mirror, the mirror that normally hangs in the parlor of my house. It just so happens that this mirror is the perfect size to obscure the urn and make it look like its holding place is empty.
crystal: Since his mother owns that house, it would be easy for Alex to sneak inside. I suspect that he intended to kill me as I slept, but for some reason couldn't go through with it. But when he saw the mirror, he got the idea that brought on this whole mess.
crystal: Later, when he realized that we might notice that the mirror was missing, he convinced Barlow to keep me away from the building.
crystal: The big clue, besides the mirror being gone, was the fortune that the judge gave me before it all happened. She said something like, "There will be time for reflection before the final reckoning." Obviously, it was a reference to the mirror trick.
sheriff: Okay, I'm with you so far. Now, why would Alex pull such a nasty prank?
crystal: He wanted Spider Cliff to remain demon-free.
sheriff: Is this true, Alex?
alex: Yes, it's exactly as she said.
crystal: He wanted me dead. This is a personal vendetta against me.
crystal: Obviously, he can't handle being in the presence of such a dynamic individual as myself.
alex: Don't take it so personal, demon.
alex: Spider Cliff is supposed to be a special place, protected from the evil and decay of the outside world.
alex: We cannot let evil stay in this town. I was only doing what I saw as necessary... forcing our demon-hunter to perform his duty and clean our town of its present blight.
sheriff: That seems an awful lot like your trying to dispense justice. That's the job of the judge here.
alex: I'm confident that the judge will agree with my point of view.
sheriff: We'll soon see, won't we?
sheriff: Crystal, do you have any special requests regarding the sentencing if Alex is found guilty?
crystal: He deserves whatever punishment the judge gives out.
sheriff: Alright, then. Alex, if you would step up to the judge now...
crystal: Alex deserves to die!
sheriff: Don't you think that's a little harsh?
crystal: Well, I'll settle for him receiving an awful lot of pain.
sheriff: That's not the way that punishment is usually handled here, as you will now find out.
sheriff: Alright, Alex, go ahead now...
crystal: I'll settle for an apology.
sheriff: You hear that, Alex? An apology to the Miss, or face the judge's punishment.
alex: I will NOT apologize. I will be vindicated!
sheriff: Yeah, yeah. Let's find out, shall we?...
rebecca: Oh, it's a big judgement.
alex: It...
alex: I... I'm sorry about this whole situation. The judge said I have to apologize to you... and I have to... accept the way things are now, with you here...
crystal: Apology accepted.
alex: I'm suppose to sign you "demon in residence" form now.
alex: Let's... let's just keep our distance for a while.
crystal: A truce?
alex: Yeah.
rebecca: Great! Now that this is over, everything can get back to normal. Or at least as close to normal as it comes.
rebecca: Let's all go to the diner for a nice dessert and some fresh coffee. All of us. And let's not let things come between us, or let anyone get left out from now on.
narrator: This is the end of "The Mayor Misplaced". The Spider Cliff Mysteries will continue with "Curse of the Purple Chickaree".
