sheriff: I'm really sorry to have to do this, but balance must be maintained.
sheriff: I had no idea that you were powerful enough to possess Barlow. Fortunately, he's not the only one who knows how to slay a demon.
crystal: Now hold on a minute. We need to talk about this...
crystal: Put that knife down before someone gets hurt.
sheriff: Someone IS going to get hurt. Now give yourself up.
crystal: I give up.
sheriff: Oh... uh... Well, giving up doesn't really change anything. I still have to kill you.
crystal: Calm down... I just want to talk things over with you real quick...
sheriff: Okay, but don't test my patience.
crystal: If you attack me, I WILL defend myself!
sheriff: I wouldn't expect any less!
sheriff: And now you die!
crystal: Wait! Wait! Time out!
sheriff: What?
crystal: Barlow is not possessed! He's just acting.
sheriff: Yes, acting as a puppet... with you pulling the string!
crystal: Enough of this foolishness... you die now!
crystal: You're dead now.
crystal: Give up, you're dead.
sheriff: You can't scare me that easily!
sheriff: I'm not here to talk things over. I'm here to kill you... right here and now.
crystal: Yeah, I get that impression. Just hear me out a second...
sheriff: What?!
crystal: How can I prove that Barlow isn't a puppet?
sheriff: You can't. Even if he's moving about freely, there's no way to be sure that someone else isn't making him do that.
sheriff: He's not the only puppet here. You, Barlow, Turnip, and even Rebecca acted as MY puppets as part of my plan.
sheriff: You and Barlow were supposed to counterbalance, freeing up Rebecca's machine for my own use.
crystal: Maybe you're a puppet in a larger scheme.
sheriff: I am NOT a puppet!
sheriff: Do I look like a puppet?! My arms and legs move by my own free will. No one can manipulate me!
sheriff: What's so funny?!
crystal: So what went wrong with your plan?
sheriff: I don't know. My plan should have been foolproof.
crystal: Well, I have some ideas of where you went wrong...
sheriff: I'm listening.
crystal: The natural balance of things can never be shaped by will.
sheriff: That thought has occurred to me many times over. I've never forced my hand... but when I learned of Rebecca's plan to lure you here, I saw all the pieces fitting together. It was like catching a glimpse of the Divine Plan.
crystal: You should never have let a demon into town.
sheriff: That wasn't my decision. It was Rebecca's decision... and in a way it was Barlow's. It was Barlow's decision to leave Spider Cliff that started all this.
crystal: That's right, let's blame Barlow.
crystal: I was obviously too much for Barlow to handle.
sheriff: I see that now, but it still makes no sense. Neither of you alone should be powerful enough to wreck my plans.
crystal: You shouldn't have left Barlow alone with the machine just now.
sheriff: But he's... wait! You tricked me! This is all just a diversion to lure me away!
crystal: I just hope I gave him enough time.
turnip: Barlow, are sure this is going to work?
barlow: This is the only way I know to cut through so much plating.
turnip: But that's steel plating. I'm just made of paper.
barlow: Then hold on to something.
