Transcript of this chapter:

crystal: Good morning, Rebecca.
rebecca: Oh, here you are... at last! It's almost seven o'clock already. The fog started rolling back over an hour ago!
crystal: Sorry... someone spent a long time getting ready this morning.
annabelle: I just wanted to look my best.
rebecca: Okay, whatever. Just take these bags and get to work already.
crystal: Did everyone else already go into the woods?
rebecca: Yes they did. You might run into some of them... nobody is supposed to go outside the range of my shouting voice. Hold on a second.
rebecca: STAY WITHIN THE RANGE OF MY VOICE!!!
rebecca: Even with the fog rolling back, it's too misty to see very far. That's why I have to shout like that, so people know which way is out.
rebecca: Of course... some people are probably already out of range...
crystal: You seem upset about something.
rebecca: Of course I'm upset! Our stupid sheriff was supposed to be the one staying at the edge of the woods this year. He ran off into the woods before I even had a chance to stop him.
crystal: How disrespectful.
rebecca: Oh, but when I do see him, I've got a whole bunch of hexes to put on him.
crystal: Now what is it we're supposed to be doing?
rebecca: You each need to pick up a bag and collect as many mushrooms as you can find. I don't care if you stick together, in fact I'd prefer you did if this is your first time going in the woods.
rebecca: Just pick up the mushrooms, and stay within the range of my voice. I'll yell out every few minutes so you know which way is the way out.
rebecca: This year, since Alex and Barlow usually spend the whole day looking for naked wood nymphs, I'm offering a prize to the person who brings back the most mushrooms.
crystal: What's the prize?
rebecca: The prize is one bottle of the mushroom wine that your mushrooms are going towards. You get a share of all the work you're doing today!
crystal: Uh... okay...
rebecca: What's the matter? You don't like wine?
crystal: Any other useful things we should be hunting for?
rebecca: There's nothing else useful in the woods.
crystal: What about some of the other plants... you know, like red-fanged mandrake for instance...
rebecca: You two need to stay clear of any red-fanged mandrake. I guess by now you're learned about it's properties... but it's DANGEROUS! Believe me, I've seen the effects.
crystal: What makes red-fanged mandrake so dangerous?
rebecca: Love is not something to be played with. I think it's really unfair that people see love potions as something so trivial.
crystal: You've had a bad experience with one, I see...
rebecca: It's not that, it's... well I just can't stand the type of person who thinks it's okay to use one... like THAT woman who stole aw...
rebecca: Um, never mind.
crystal: I just like to complete, no prize is necessary.
rebecca: But you won't want to pass on my mushroom wine.
crystal: Well... uh, I guess we'd better jump right in there... start collecting. Yeah...
crystal: We're probably starting too late to win. I'm sure the others already have a whole heap of mushrooms...
crystal: And Barlow probably knows more about mushrooms that anyone, with all the fungus growing in his bedroom.
rebecca: But you're still going to gather my mushrooms, right?
crystal: Yeah, we'll pick up whatever the others didn't find.
crystal: Wow, even with the fog thinned out, I'm still a little disoriented.
annabelle: I think we're a bit past our range. I can't hear Rebecca yelling anymore.
crystal: But we have to find that red-fanged mandrake. It's the only reason we came in here in the first place.
crystal: Look over there... That looks like the sheriff.
annabelle: Yeah, and it looks like he's not alone. It looks like there's an old woman with him.
crystal: The plot thickens. We need to go check this out.
crystal: Sheriff! What are you doing way out here?
sheriff: You!... You just ruined... Aw, never mind!
crystal: Who was that old woman?
sheriff: I... I don't know what you're talking about. There's nobody else around here.
crystal: But we SAW you with someone!
sheriff: Don't be ridiculous. This mist was probably causing you to see things. From a distance, any stump or large rock could look like a person.
crystal: So how many mushrooms have you collected FOR REBECCA?
sheriff: Can you keep your voice down a little? I'm trying to enjoy nature.
crystal: Well, I know you're only here because YOU WANT TO HELP REBECCA... You're only here because of YOUR RESPECT FOR REBECCA...
sheriff: Yeah...
annabelle: Whatever it was, you scared it away.
sheriff: Why do you have to come all the way out here and spoil my day?! You're not even supposed to go this far into the woods! You're WAY too far from the edge!
crystal: Why do you do this to Rebecca? Can't you see how much you're upsetting her?
sheriff: Yeah, well it's none of her business. And it's none of yours, either!
sheriff: I hope you know that I've waited all year for the fog to lift... and on the one day it does you both have to ruin everything!
sheriff: Go find your mandrake and leave me to my misery.
crystal: I sure hope there's nothing dangerous out here.
sheriff: Well, there isn't NOW. With the noise that you two are making, you could raise the dead.
annabelle: I am the dead.
sheriff: Yeah, well go find your love potion herbs and leave me to my misery.
crystal: We're too far? You're out here, too.
sheriff: Yes, but I have... things to do out here.
sheriff: Oh, it's this darn weather! With the wind blowing from town, the fog is being pushed back much further than usual. You weren't supposed to be able to come this far.
sheriff: But I know you're here for a certain variety of mandrake... red-fanged, I believe. You'll find some not more than fifty paces behind me. Get it and leave the woods as soon as you can.
