crystal: Rebecca, we have some questions for you...
rebecca: Oh, Crystal... Barlow. It's good to see you both... here this morning.
crystal: Are you surprised that Barlow's still here?
rebecca: I don't know what you mean.
barlow: Did you have some special reason for wanting me out of town?
rebecca: Barlow, everything I've done has been for your benefit.
crystal: We were wondering if you remembered anything about what happened when the bridge was cut down. Have you?
rebecca: Nope. Barlow and I were right here when it happened.
crystal: We want answers! Tell us what we want... or else!
barlow: Yeah!
rebecca: Or else what?
crystal: See these eyes? These eyes could turn you to stone in an instant!
barlow: She's right. She did it to me!
crystal: No, Barlow... I didn't.
barlow: I'm trying to back you up here.
crystal: Just be quiet and let the grown-ups talk.
rebecca: So what is it you're trying to say here?
crystal: Look, Rebecca... I'm sorry we had to threaten you like that. We're both a bit frustrated because nobody's been giving us a straight answer.
crystal: We just want to know about the bridge.
barlow: Because we're frustrated!
barlow: ...and we obviously haven't had any sleep.
crystal: And you say that Alex wasn't involved. What about Turnip? What about the Sheriff?
rebecca: The Sheriff, yes, but I honestly don't see how Turnip is involved in this at all.
crystal: Let us know what happened, so we can get on with our lives.
rebecca: Well, I guess I can't fight it anymore. No matter what I do, the Sheriff always gets his way.
barlow: Rebecca, you know who cut down the bridge?
crystal: Of course Rebecca knows... SHE did it.
barlow: But she was with me when it happened.
crystal: That was just a coincidence. I suspect that things didn't happen as you planned them.
rebecca: You're right so far. Do you know WHY I cut down the bridge?
crystal: Tell us or die!
rebecca: Do you really mean that?
crystal: Well... actually, no. I would rather be on good terms with you. In some strange way, I feel like I belong in Spider Cliff.
barlow: Psst... Crystal. You are NOT staying.
crystal: You wanted me to fall to my death with the bridge.
rebecca: Well, you were right up until now. I didn't want to kill you off... at least not so soon.
crystal: You wanted to trap me in town, and Barlow out.
rebecca: Correct you are, Crystal, and everything would have been perfect, if the Sheriff hadn't molded my plan to fit his agenda.
crystal: You wanted to keep Barlow here in town and keep me out.
rebecca: Well it looks like you don't know everything. The real reason is the exact opposite.
crystal: You wanted to keep real estate developers out.
rebecca: What? That's not even close. The real reason has to do with you and Barlow.
rebecca: Here's the whole story...
rebecca: I knew that Barlow wanted nothing more than to leave Spider Cliff and go to university. But his role as our official demon-hunter is more important than he realized. Spider Cliff is a magnet for supernatural activity, so if he left town we'd be defenseless against demonic invasion.
rebecca: I came across the solution in an old book... the plans for a Demonic Transfer Shield, a machine that uses demonic power against itself, multiplying the protective layer that already surrounds us. Constructing it was easy with the Sheriff's help. All I needed to do was draw in a weak demon to use as a power source.
barlow: I saw that machine in the storage area!
rebecca: I let you find it, so you'd know you didn't have to worry about us when you left.
crystal: But Barlow didn't pick up on that clue. Surprise, surprise.
rebecca: I timed the cutting mechanism to cut down the bridge after you had arrived and Barlow had left, so he wouldn't be obligated to come back. Everything was told that I'd hired a new waitress so your arrival wouldn't be unexpected.
crystal: But then your plan went awry...
crystal: The Sheriff changed the timer on the bridge cutter, making it go off before Barlow could leave.
rebecca: Right. That's what started our argument. The Sheriff thought that having you and Barlow here together made a nice balance, and you know how he likes everything in balance. Then I tried to get Barlow to leave using the cannon, but once again the Sheriff seems to have foiled my plan.
rebecca: So I guess my Demonic Transfer Shield isn't necessary after all. I'm actually sort of relieved... it would've killed you in painful ways, and I don't think you deserve that kind of treatment.
crystal: I'm relieved as well.
crystal: Barlow was late in leaving.
rebecca: No, Barlow was on time. The cutter was sabotaged.
crystal: The bridge cutter accidentally went off early.
rebecca: It went off early, but it was no accident.
rebecca: The Sheriff changed the timer on the bridge cutter. He wanted BOTH of you to stay here. He thought it was a good balance to have both a demon and demon-hunter in town. I tried to get Barlow to leave using the cannon, but again he seems to have foiled my plan.
crystal: So I guess this mystery is solved.
rebecca: Yes, it looks like the Sheriff got his way after all.
barlow: Oh my goodness!
crystal: Barlow, are you just now figuring this all out?
barlow: No, I just figured out what's REALLY going on! And YOU haven't figured it out yet!
crystal: What is it?
barlow: We've got to move fast! Turnip is in Danger!
crystal: Isn't it a fact that things affect demons and paper mammals in opposite ways?
rebecca: I believe that's true.
crystal: Then a machine that repels demons would be...
rebecca: ....a huge magnet for paper mammals!
crystal: Barlow! This isn't over yet! Turnip is in danger!
