Transcript of this chapter:

rebecca: Hello, Crystal. You'll be happy to hear that the sheriff is out of the worst of it. I stayed up all night watching over him.
rebecca: I've been trying to figure out what his last message was supposed to mean... He scratched out "d-o-n-t-t" on the ground...
crystal: And ideas?
rebecca: Nothing for sure. It could be don't tell... don't touch... don't take... don't tickle... Whatever it was, it must've been important.
rebecca: Whatever it was that you two were up to, it turned quite dangerous. And don't pretend that nothing is going on.
crystal: Actually, that's the reason I came to see you just now...
rebecca: So something IS going on! I knew it! If I find out it was something big, I'm going to be VERY cross!
crystal: Um... well...
crystal: I've got to tell you about what happened at the bank...
rebecca: The bank?...
crystal: Yeah... you see, the bank got robbed yesterday...
crystal: Uh... so, how's the festival going?...
rebecca: Changing the subject?
crystal: No, no, I was just wondering, since you've worked so hard on it.
rebecca: Well, if you must know, I'm not making as much money as I'd hoped. I'm only just breaking even so far.
crystal: The money is important to you, isn't it?
rebecca: Of course it is. It's the only thing we have of lasting value.
crystal: Uh... right... But what if, uh... if we found out someone had sort of robbed the bank...
rebecca: Robbed the bank?
crystal: Uh, yeah...
crystal: How does your festival compare to past ones?
rebecca: Well, I'm not sure, since this is the first time I've been the organizer. We haven't held this festival in ten years, and I don't remember if it made any money back then. There were more people back then, you know.
crystal: Yeah, I saw a brochure for an old one tacked to the board in the back.
rebecca: That's what inspired me to bring it back. I think Alex found that old brochure somewhere and it really inspired me.
crystal: Hmmm... that's funny. Alex though that you found the brochure.
rebecca: Well, it turned up at a good time. When I found it, I was able to get this organized just in time for Arabelle's Eve.
crystal: Yeah... Arabelle does play into this...
crystal: When does this festival end already?!
rebecca: You want it to be over so soon?
crystal: Well, it's really starting to take the attention off of more important things.
rebecca: What's more important?
crystal: Well, you see... sometime during this weekend, someone robbed the bank...
crystal: Arabelle was in charge of the bank, you know...
rebecca: Oh, really? Yeah, Arabelle Cathaway... I never really made that connection before.
rebecca: Now then, haven't we gone far enough from whatever you needed to tell me? There's no use trying to distract me from the truth.
crystal: Actually, Arabelle does seem to have something to do with all of this...
rebecca: What do you mean?
crystal: Alex discovered that Annabelle was the real founder of the festival.
rebecca: Well, that's interesting... maybe next time we'll have some special events in her honor.
crystal: If there IS a next time...
crystal: You see, sometime during this festival, someone robbed the bank...
crystal: Arabelle is missing... from her grave...
rebecca: Arabelle... is missing?!
crystal: Yeah. Either someone dug her up or she climbed out on her own.
rebecca: What? Why?!
crystal: I don't know, but I think it has something to do with the bank being robbed two nights ago.
crystal: Have you been to Arabelle's grave recently?
rebecca: Arabelle's grave? I don't think I've ever visited her grave.
rebecca: Oh, I know where it is. It's in the third row, four plots away from Barlow's aunt Vedalia. A bit overgrown, if I remember correctly.
crystal: That's supposedly the one.
rebecca: Well, I went right past it yesterday.
crystal: Wait... You walked past it yesterday? On Saturday? And there was nothing unusual?
rebecca: Everything was normal. Why? What's this all about?
crystal: Then it means the body was dug up sometime last night!
rebecca: Wha?... Someone dug up her corpse?! Why?!
crystal: Obviously, it was to distract us from whoever really robbed the bank.
rebecca: Robbed... the... ba...
crystal: maybe I should start at the beginning.
crystal: What do you know about Arabelle Cathaway?
rebecca: I'm afraid I don't really know much about her, except that she saved the matrimonials and started this festival. She died a long time ago.
crystal: Well, it appears that she might be back... and it's got something to do with the accidents that have happened to our matrimonials... and also about the bank robbery.
rebecca: Well, the accidents might be nothing more than just... did you say bank robbery?
rebecca: The bank was robbed?! Why didn't anyone tell me?! Barlow was right, there IS a conspiracy here!
crystal: We didn't want to tell you because of what it meant to the value of our currency...
rebecca: Oh my! That's right! Without those reserves in the bank, our mammon are worthless!!!
rebecca: We're ruined! We're financially ruined!
crystal: Don't worry... we know where the money is... at least we think we do.
rebecca: Where's the money?!
crystal: We think it's in the pie safe. The thief had to hide it there temporarily.
rebecca: Well, let's go open it up.
crystal: Wait! We might lose our chance to catch the thief...
rebecca: No, it's time to open the safe anyway. We're approaching the end of the festival. We'll be weighing the remaining matrimonials in under an hour.
rebecca: And that money had better be in there.
crystal: You didn't REALLY need the money... You've been using mammon for so long around here anyway.
crystal: And it's not like you're really missing anything here. You weren't able to get to the money previously. There's no key to that bank vault.
rebecca: That may be, but this is part of our local tradition. That money played a big role in the history of Spider Cliff. You might not know this, but it was all seized from the circus following our war with them.
crystal: I didn't know that.
rebecca: Oh, it's common knowledge around here. But reminiscing about our money isn't going to bring it back!
crystal: I'm really sorry. Sheriff made me promise not to tell you.
rebecca: Yeah, I can see why he'd do that. He was complaining that I was being too obsessed with making a profit with this festival. I guess he didn't want to see my hopes get shattered.
crystal: We've both been working very hard to recover the money. He wanted to recover it before you found out it was missing.
rebecca: That's very kind of him, but look where it took him. He's unconscious now and I don't know when he'll wake up.
